Bacterial taxonomy is under constant flux and as phylogenetic relationships among groups are better understood bacterial nomenclature also changes. Strain identity of the cultures in this collection are being validated by recently developed molecular methods as as this collection is curated. Current nomenclature will be used for most strains in our collection and is the basis of the search. Older names will be used in cases where molecular tests were not used to validate a name change from the original to an updated name. Every strain is associated with an acquisition number (A number) and additional characteristics are provided the Description. Below is a list of common genera in the collection which have undergone one or more name changes during the course of this work.
